The General Education Development tests (GED) is an equivalency
high school diploma tests, which can be taken by those individuals who
were not able to complete their high school education. Ged tests
consist of five parts, social studies, maths, language arts/reading,
language arts/writing, and science.
Costs of the testing will vary by location, and can vary from $70
to $80 for all five tests. Retakes of the tests could cost about $15.
Registration may be done online or in person, but once the full test
capacity has been met, the pre-registration will be closed.
The ged test dates are not set to very specific scheduled dates. If
you are interested in taking the Ged tests, you may do so at various
testing centers throughout the year, in various testing locations in
the US, in Canada and at certain locations internationally.
If you are looking to register during the Spring season, you will
see that the scheduled dates are for one day during each of the 4
consequent months of April, May, June and July. On that one day each
month, an 8 hour period has been cheduled for the testing.
Anyone over the age of 16 years could take the Ged tests. On the
day of the testing, a State issued photo id that shows date of birth,
has to be presented to verify identity. Also, the testing candidate
must have a legal parent or guardian's notarized permission
statement,a document that proves the student was home schooled or a
school withdrawal statement.
To prepare for the tests, you may register for ged prep
classes. These classes are not required, and you will have to check
your local agencies for preparation class details and locations, and
in many instances, local libraries may offer classes. In many cases,
you will be able to register online for such classes.
To pass each subject a 410 score is required, but to pass all 5
classes, an average score of 450 should be received. Retakes of the
tests can be scheduled within 30 days of taking the previous tests,
and retesting can be done for up to. Also, all 5 parts of the ged must
be completed with 36 months of originally starting.
